Product introduction
Alpha-arbutin inhibits tyrosinase activity, blocking the synthesis of dopa and dopaquinone, thereby reducing melanin production and lightening existing melanin. It is widely used in the cosmetics industry as a skin whitening agent [1]. According to the EU Regulation 2024/858, the restrictions on cosmetics containing alpha-arbutin have been incorporated into the regulatory framework [2-3]. The maximum safe concentration of this ingredient in face cream is 2%, and in body lotion it is 0.5%, and the hydroquinone content must be controlled to ≤3ppm.
Alpha-arbutin is a highly effective skin-whitening ingredient in the arbutin family. It blocks melanin production by inhibiting tyrosinase activity and has advantages in safety and stability.
Function
Alpha-arbutin is similar to beta-arbutin in that it can inhibit the production and deposition of melanin, thus removing age spots and freckles.
